Fotoistanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival Starts on October 1!
Fotoistanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival, gathering 60 photography artists from Turkey and all over the world, opens its doors on October 1. The Festival is scheduled to continue until October 30. During the Festival; 60 exhibitions, 12 panels and roundtable discussions, 6 ‘artistic talks with masters’ meetings, more than 250 portfolio evaluations and book autograph sessions will be organized. The novelty for the Festival this year will be the open-air video screenings.
Being Turkey’s most comprehensive photography organization, Fotoistanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival is preparing to host art-lovers on October 1 for the 3rd time.
The venues where the Festival will take place are as follows: Mustafa Kemal Kültür Merkezi (Mustafa Kemal Cultural Center), Ortaköy Yetimhanesi (Ortaköy Orphanage), Ortaköy Kültür Merkezi (Ortaköy Cultural Center), Ortaköy Meydanı (Ortaköy Square), Serencebey Barbaros Bulvarı (Serencebey Barbaros Boulevard), Demokrasi Meydanı (Democracy Square), Deniz Müzesi (Naval Museum), Kazan Meydanı (Kazan Square), Beşiktaş Köyiçi Meydanı (Beşiktaş Köyiçi Downtown Square), Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi (Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University), Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi Beşiktaş Kampüsü (Bahçeşehir University Beşiktaş Campus), Macar Kültür Merkezi (Hungarian Cultural Center), Artgalerim, Fotoğraf Evi, Gama, İFG, Mikser, O’Art Sanat Platformu and The Empire Project.
Fotoistanbul 2016 is bringing the art works of 35 world-famous foreign artists to Istanbul. These include, Sandro Miller mainly who is one of the prominent photography artists alive, and Ruud van Empel, Antonie D'agata, Christer Strömhölm, Nick Brandt, Daesung Lee, Mandy Barker, Josef Hoflehner, Kai Widenhofer, Henrik Spohler, James Mollison, Shadi Ghadirian, Tomasz Lazar, Marcus Lyon, Jean Fransuva Lepage, Park Seung Hoon. The festival features 20 artists from Turkey including Yıldız Moran, Maryam Şahinyan, Gül Ilgaz, Sinan Tuncay, Ahmet Öner Gezgin, Ergun Turan, Bennu Gerede, Barbaros Kayan, Aydın Büyüktaş, Tayfun Öztürk, Seçkin Yılmaz, H-art Kollektif.
This Year’s Guest of Honor is Hungary
Having been remarkably successful in a quite short period of time; Fotoistanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival reached a distinguished place in the photography world. From this year on, the Festival will host a specific country and the photography artists of that country as the ‘Guest of Honor’ each year and organize events special to that country. And the guest of honor of this year is Hungary, where world-famous photography artists like André Kertész mainly, and Brassaï, Robert Capa, László Moholy-Nagy come from. Besides, the art works of the annual winner of the ‘Robert Capa International Grand Prize’ will be exhibited at Fotoistanbul each year. This year the Festival features another gift to the photography-lovers. The works of the winner of the International Andrey Stenin Photography Competition, held in Russia every year, will be exhibited at Fotoistanbul this year as well, just like the previous year. Original anthologies from the Arles Voies Off Photography Festival and Tbilisi Photography Festival will also be shown at Fotoistanbul 2016.
Fotoistanbul Cooperates with Photo Galleries in Istanbul
Fotoistanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival is planning to add a new dimension to its relations with the world of art by cooperating with the photo galleries in Istanbul. Artgalerim, Fotoğraf Evi, Gama, İFG, Mikser, O’Art Sanat Platformu and The Empire Project will be taking part in Fotoistanbul this year with their exhibitions.
As part of Fotoistanbul 2016, an Instagram photography contest will be held under the sponsorship of The Eveyday Projects and Canon. The candidates advancing to the finals, as a result of the evaluation out of thousands of photos sent from all over the world, will be awarded by Canon Türkiye with various presents. In addition to that, the works of the artists to be selected in the top 50 in this contest will be exhibited throughout the Festival.
The Art Director of Fotoistanbul 2016 is Attila Durak, the Festival Executive Director is Rıza Erdeğirmenci, the Communication Director is Ersin İleri, the Festival Consultant is Coşar Kulaksız, the Project Coordinator is Ebru Uluğkay, and the Project Manager is Noyan Sungur. And the curators are as follows; Hüseyin Yılmaz, Katharina Mouratidi, Jae Hyun Seok, Christophe Laloi, Oscar Durand, Elie Gardner, István Virágvölgyi.
"Fotoistanbul 2016 Opening Party", is to be held at the Ortaköy Orphanage (Ortaköy Yetimhanesi) on Saturday, October 1. Everybody is welcome to the opening party to be cheered up by live DJ performances.
