Beşiktaş Municipality’s 65+ Living Office has been selected among the 40 finalists of the OIDP 2026 Best Practice in Citizen Participation Award, an international recognition programme organised by the International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (OIDP).
The application was shortlisted in the “Gender and Care” category, which highlights innovative local government practices promoting inclusion, care services, and equal access to public services. The 65+ Living Office was recognised for its comprehensive approach to active and healthy ageing, including individual counselling services, gerontological assessments, digital literacy trainings, age-friendly urban practices, and initiatives supporting the social participation of older adults.
Established under the umbrella of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), OIDP is a global network promoting participatory democracy and citizen engagement at the local level. The annual award aims to identify and disseminate innovative practices that strengthen participation, social inclusion, and democratic governance in cities around the world.
Following the international jury’s evaluation, the selected finalists have advanced to the next stage of the competition, which also includes a public support process hosted on the OIDP platform. The final results will be announced after the completion of the evaluation process.
The recognition of the 65+ Living Office as a finalist contributes to the international visibility of Beşiktaş Municipality’s age-friendly policies and its commitment to inclusive local governance.
