"We Will Build a Brighter Future Together!"

The 33 intellectuals who lost their lives in the Sivas Massacre have been commemorated during the ceremony held at Beşiktaş Cemevi and Mustafa Kemal Center.

Sivas Madımak Hotel, where the people attending The Pir Sultan Abdal Festivities stayed, was set on fire on 2 July, 1993, killing 33 of our intellectuals. Within the frame of The Sivas Massacre’s 29th anniversary, Beşiktaş Municipality have hosted a series of commemoration ceremonies. In the events held in Unutmamak Museum in Mustafa Kemal Center and Beşiktaş Cemevi, people have left flowers to the memorial corners prepared for the writers, artists and scholars that lost their lives during the attack.

The Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat has expressed his emotions by sharing the following message: “On the 29th anniversary of the Sivas Massacre, we commemorate our intellectuals and artists who were massacred in Madımak. We will heal our wounds together; we will build a brighter future together.”
