Ensuring All Streets in Beşiktaş are Accessible to Fire Trucks and Ambulances

Ensuring All Streets in Beşiktaş are Accessible to Fire Trucks and Ambulances

During the speech at the municipal council meeting in June, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat provided updates on upcoming projects in Beşiktaş. He announced plans to transform Ihlamurdere Street, one of the busiest areas in Beşiktaş, into a comfortable space for pedestrians, people with disabilities, and senior citizens. Mayor Akpolat emphasized, “We will ensure that no street in Beşiktaş is inaccessible to fire trucks and ambulances.”

“We will Transform Ihlamurdere Street into a Convenient Area”

“Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, along with his secretary general, deputy secretaries, and directorate heads, has recently visited us. We have reviewed the projects we have implemented in Beşiktaş and examined upcoming projects and infrastructure services. We prioritized areas that need reorganization, particularly focusing on the outdated water channels on Ihlamurdere Street. Many of these areas are private properties, leading to improper constructions. These issues are the source of minor problems in the area. İSKİ (Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration) does not have the authority to enter private properties, but under this project, we will address these issues as well.”

At the same time, we will not leave any street in Beşiktaş, on Ihlamurdere Street, where the fire brigade and ambulance do not enter. We will therefore open public areas in that area and adapt them accordingly. There, we will provide pedestrian crossings, disabled access and especially easy access for our neighbours over the age of 65; we will turn it into a convenient place. We will announce the timetable for this in the upcoming days. Together with our District Governorship, District Police Department, and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, we will implement a programme in which both the infrastructure and superstructure, facade rehabilitation, pedestrian and disabled crossings will all be arranged at the same time and in coordination. Let us give the good news out here."
