During the December session of the İstanbul Metropolitan City Council, discussions had arisen about giving the name of Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan to the street where she lives. After the discussions, Mayor of Beşiktas Rıza Akpolat stated that he would hang out a sign bearing the name of Türkan Saylan on Karakavak Street in Arnavutköy District.
Mayor Akpolat kept his word and on Friday January 14, hang out a sign bearing the name of Türkan Saylan on the street where Saylan lived in Arnavutköy. Akpolat gave a speech about the issue:
Türkan Saylan is our pride and will always remain so. We will make no one forget her name and what she has done for this country. She devoted her life to being the protector of the orphans, healed hundreds of patients, gave hope to millions of children and our society. It is an honor for us to keep Türkan Saylan's name alive in Beşiktaş, on the street where she lived.
