Since the very first day of the earthquake, Beşiktaş Municipality has united with its neighbours, and managed to send 65 semi-trucks to the disaster area under the coordination of Beşiktaş District Governorate and AFAD. Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat thanked all the neighbours for their devotion, and shared the new requirements for the donations. The new items needed are listed as underwear, sanitary pads, adult and baby diapers, oral hygiene products, propane tanks for kitchen, tents, heaters, sleeping bags and blankets.
The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes that struck 10 different cities including Kahramanmaraş, the epicentre of the earthquake, have caused a great disaster to take place in Türkiye, and currently all people are mobilised to heal the damage the earthquake caused. In this regard, Beşiktaş Municipality has sent 65 semi-trucks to the disaster area under the coordination of Beşiktaş District Governorate and AFAD. Since the very first day of the earthquake, the neighbours in the district have rushed into the aid collection centres to send necessary products to the earthquake victims. While the Beşiktaş residents managed to fill 65 semi-trucks with boxes containing the items in the requirement list, they have also provided support for categorization and packaging of the aids collected.
Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat thanked Beşiktaş people and municipal stakeholders for their dedication. Mayor Rıza Akpolat has informed that there has been a change in the requirement list, and made the following statement:
“Dear neighbours, we are going through a very difficult time together. We are trying to manage this process with solidarity, and we do our best to maintain it. We directed our search and rescue teams to the region from the first day of the disaster. More than 100 volunteers are maintaining their search and rescue efforts at the area for 6 days. Beşiktaş Search and Rescue Teams have rescued about 45 citizens from the rubbles. We have been collecting humanitarian aid since the first day, and together with the people of Beşiktaş, and we are transferring these aids to the disaster area with the coordination of AFAD. We have sent 64 semi-trucks carrying aid so far.
Our veterinary vehicles have been sent to the region, and our mobile kitchens have been installed, and ready to serve at the disaster zone. We offer hot meals to our citizens in mobile kitchens, and from the first day, 49 vehicles have been transferred there, and currently functioning.
Approximately 40 thousand boxes have been checked, sorted and sent there. From this moment on, we will share a new list of requirements with our neighbours.
These requirements have been determined as underwear, sanitary pads, adult and baby diapers, oral hygiene products, propane tanks for kitchen, tents, heaters, sleeping bags and blankets. I kindly request you to bring these items to the collection centres. There is a very difficult scene at the region. There are many people who are still alive under the rubbles; there are still many trying to survive. We are going to manage a 3-4 month long process altogether; this is why we are trying to come up with a sustainable system. Our tents and containers are being directed to the region.
“Thank You All Who Supported Our Solidarity”
Beşiktaş District Governorate, District Police Department, Directorate of National Education, mukhtars, universities, academicians, students, everyone are here. Our friends working in various units of Beşiktaş Municipality, from its cleaner to its mayor, demonstrate a great dedication 24 hours a day for 6 days. There is great solidarity; just like all of Türkiye. I sincerely thank all our stakeholders, and most importantly I thank all the people of Beşiktaş who made our unity stronger. Thank you all who supported our solidarity.”
