İstanbul Comics and Art Festival

Istanbul Comics & Art Festival (ICAF), organized by the Dream Sales Machine and hosted by the Beşiktaş Municipality, will take place at the Ortaköy Orphanage (Ortaköy Yetimhanesi), Kethüda Hammam and Feriye on October 12-13, 2019.

Istanbul Comics & Art Festival is an open air festival that brings together strips and street culture and offers creative experience fields such as workshops, talks, exhibitions, screenings and public space practices through various disciplines such as comic strips, caricature, street art, fanzine, illustration and animation.

ICAF invites Denis Leo Hegic, a distinguished curator from Berlin, to this year’s event on October 11, through the Urban Art project, as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the sister city partnership between Istanbul and Berlin. Dering the event, hosted by the Beşiktaş Municipality, ten street artists will perform mural drawings on the walls in Beşiktaş streets.

Being organized for the 4th time this year, the ICAF Festival features the animal powers of comic strip characters, animal dialogs in caricature, the relationship between street animals and public space, and animal figurations in art under the main theme “Like Animal”.

What does it feature?

Comic strips / Publishers / Caricature / Fanzine
Discover old and new works regarding the fanzine world through the special selects of publishers and collectors, and also the shops that carry the comic strip culture to Turkey.

Animation
An animation series including domestic and foreign animations is offered with a select through the theme ‘Animal”.

Workshops and Talks
Workshops where strips and all the disciplines relating to strips can be experienced with the company of well-known drawers; and also eye-opening talks through production practices of master and young drawers.

Music
Punk and rap music groups representing sub-culture will be taking the festival stage!
