The Erlangen Municipality in Germany, which is one of the sister cities of the Beşiktaş Municipality, held a commemoration ceremony for our martyrs that we lost in the terrorist attacks in our district on Saturday, December 10th. Besides that, mourning flags were hung on the Town Hall of the Erlangen Municipality.
The commemoration ceremony in Erlangen was attended by the Turkish Consul General in Nürnberg Yavuz Kül, the Erlangen Mayor Dr. Florian Janik, the Religious Affairs Attaché Mümin Şener, Ruhi Teksifer who is the founder of the Erlangen-Beşiktaş Sister City Association (ERBEŞ), Süleyman Akgün who is the President of the Atatürk Society of Nurnberg, and many Turkish and German invitees. Turkish flags were unfurled in the foyer area.
The Erlangen Mayor Dr. Florian Janik said, “We condemn the treacherous terrorist attacks carried out in Beşiktaş, Istanbul. It was a total tragedy. Unfortunately, terror has spread all over Europe”. Mr. Janik stated that they recently celebrated the 50th foundation anniversary of the Erlangen Turkish Cultural Association all together and added that “Here we live all together and happliy, and wish that peace would reign all over the world”. Dr. Florian Janik called for a moment of silence and then the attendees were given one rose for each.
As the Beşiktaş Municipality, we would like to extend our thanks to our sister city Erlangen for showing their courtesy to share our grief and standing with us in these tough times.
