Beşiktaş International Flower & Garden Festival Has Ended!

The Beşiktaş International Flower and Garden Festival, held by the Beşiktaş Municipality between May 6th – 15th, 2016, has ended.

The citizens of Beşiktaş have witnessed colorful scenes during the Festival carried out all through the district of Beşiktaş including the parks, squares and streets.

Peace Message from Beşiktaş to the Whole World through Flowers!

The Beşiktaş International Flower and Garden Festival started with the ‘Peace Parade’ with the participation of citizens of all ages, decorated cars with colorful flowers, bicycle riders, flower children, a marching band, and with a giant Turkish flag made by red flowers . Messages of peace were sent to the whole world during the parade and the festival through various events and exhibitions.

Various events were held in Beşiktaş during the Festival, including Festival gardens, watching areas, outdoor architectural installations, concerts, exhibitions, artistic practices, open-air cinemas, workshops, and much more. Venue for the events was selected locations of Beşiktaş itself including parks, squares, iconic locations, streets, boulevards, streets with stairs, dead-end streets, transformers, derelict buildings, schoolyards, outdoor basketball courts, playgrounds. Briefly, almost every corner of the district was a festival venue.

The Beşiktaş International Flower and Garden Festival hosted many international visitors and exhibitors. The international visitors of the Festival included Frank Dudda, the Mayor of the City of Herne in Germany, and his delegation, Alexander Bogdanoviç, who is the Mayor of the City of Cetinje in Montenegro, guests from Hungary, Montenegro and Germany, as well as the Consul Generals of the USA, Canada, Japan, Venezuela and as well as many foreign exhibitors, designers and visitors from various countries.

The Chief Consultant of the Beşiktaş International Flower and Garden Festival was Stephen Bennett, who was the former Director of the Chelsea Flower Show in London for 23 years. Andrew Tomlin-Fisher, who is the Head of the London College of Garden Design, was the curator of the “Garden Designs” which were produced as part of the Festival by 15 international garden designers from various countries.

At the end, the festival has reached the goal with the support of about 100 companies, non-governmental organizations, international delegations and consulate generals, district and metropolitan municipalities, universities, national and international designers in various fields.
