As part of the “Women in Power” Project, young volunteers from various countries visited the Beşiktaş Municipality’s Coordination Center for the Disabled and Ulus Leisure House.
On their first day, they visited Ulus Leisure House and chatted to people who pass time there usually and joined various activities together with them.
On the second day of their visit, young volunteers stopped by the units of the Beşiktaş Municipality’s Directorate of Social Welfare Affairs to see how disadvantaged people are dealt with and what kind of assistances and facilities they are provided with. They also visited our Coordination Center for the Disabled and were informed by the officials about works performed there.
Maide Karaca, one of the youngsters who is a student in Switzerland and came to Turkey for this Project, said: “This is the first time I have been to Istanbul. I really love Istanbul and the Beşiktaş Municipality for all their efforts for the disadvantaged people, women and the elderly. They are very active when compared to other municipalities. When I go back to Switzerland, I will definitely recommend my friends to visit Beşiktaş.”
Asal Kalantarian, a youngster from Germany, said: “I would like to thank the Beşiktaş Municipality for all their support. As a city, Beşiktaş is a part of multi-cultural and multi-national metropolis Istanbul. Compared to the other parts of Istanbul, Beşiktaş stands much more developed and the ratio of English-speaking people is higher.’’
