Erasmus Days in Beşiktaş!

Erasmus Days in Beşiktaş!

A series of events were organized in Beşiktaş as well within the scope of the "Erasmus Days" events carried out simultaneously throughout Europe on October 10-12, 2019.

Beşiktaş Municipality’s Erasmus Days 2019 Istanbul event was held on Thursday, October 10 at the Zübeyde Ana Culture and Arts Center of the Beşiktaş Municipality. During the event, the participants had the chance to get to know Erasmus and witness changing lives of others after Erasmus experiences.

The event was also aimed at coming up with a clear and detailed answer to the questions “What is Erasmus and Erasmus Plus?”. The lives of those who had the Erasmus Plus experience offered guidance to the participants desiring to make their own way. After talks and question & answer sessions, the participants were presented surprise gifts as well.

Attracting a substantial participation, the event was also attended by the Beşiktaş Mayor Mr. Rıza Akpolat, and Selçuk Sarıyar, who is a Beşiktaş City Council Member and the Group Secretary for CHP at the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Mayor Akpolat gifted Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s immortal book “Nutuk” to all the participants and said “Beşiktaş is a student-city, hosting 9 universities within its borders. And we really care about this Erasmus Plus program and as the Beşiktaş Municipality we offer important support in this field. We will be further improving this support. Through our Municipality’s European Voluntary Service projects titled “Beşiktaş’s Youth Across the Borders” and “European Volunteers from Beşiktaş” performed in 2018, 10 young people rendered voluntary services in Sicily and Bari in Italy for a period of two months. In addition to that, 6 youngsters again performed voluntary services for a period of two months through the 3 different EVS projects we performed this summer. And 6 youngsters are currently doing their voluntary activities in Italy. This time will be sending some youngsters to Spain and Portugal in the next period. When we plan our current and prospective sister city relations, we tend to opt for those municipalities that attach importance to such programs and with which we can carry out joint projects in that regard”.
