Struggling against Coronavirus, Beşiktaş Municipality was cited as a good example to the world by OECD with the ‘Gender Equality Begins at Home’ campaign.
Beşiktaş Municipality was shown as a good model with its precautions and efforts carried out against the coronavirus in the ‘Policy Responses of Cities to Covid-19 Report’ by OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), which is one of the most important international organizations in the world.
In the report prepared by OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities (CFE) in collaboration with the OECD Working Party for Urban Policy and the OECD Champion Mayors Initiative for Inclusive Growth, the campaign ‘Gender Equality Begins at Home’ of Beşiktaş Municipality took place among the good examples in the scope of the operations for vulnerable groups oriented. During the epidemic process, which people spent more time at home, the campaign drew attention to the fact that the domestic responsibilities at home don’t belong solely to women.
Since the very first day that the pandemic started to show its effect in our country, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat started to take stringent precautions against the epidemic with his colleagues. Beşiktaş Mayor Akpolat, who has carried out innovative projects in many areas from disinfection operations to social aid, digital municipal services to taking care of stray animals, stated that the efforts against the epidemic will continue without interruption.
