Beşiktaş Municipality has been deemed worthy of receiving the Flag of Honour, one of the most prestigious prizes in this field, by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Receiving the award from Council of Europe Senator Joseph O’Reilly, Mayor of Beşiktaş Rıza Akpolat stated that they are now one step closer to receiving the Europe Prize and expressed: “I am very honoured that our municipality, awarded with the title of ‘Partner of the ELDW’ during the European Democracy Week last February, has been deemed worthy of receiving the ‘Flag of Honour’ for our sister city relations carried out with great care and elaboration, as well as for our support to the youth to participate in volunteering activities through Erasmus+ projects, European events, European and international solidarity activities.”
Presenting the Flag of Honour to Mayor Akpolat, Council of Europe Senator Joseph O’Reilly stated: “After your city was awarded the European Diploma in 2021, this year you have been awarded the Flag of Honour, demonstrating how enthusiastically your municipality promotes European values together with its residents, schools, sister cities and stakeholders. The Council of Europe recognises the commitment of Beşiktaş’s leaders to Europe. I am very impressed by your exemplary work and would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you.”
