Beşiktaş Municipality Neutralized Its Corporate Carbon Footprint…

Beşiktaş Municipality added a new one to its environmental awareness studies and cooperated with İstaç A.Ş, neutralizing its corporate carbon footprint of 2019. Rıza Akpolat, Mayor of Beşiktaş, who carries out sustainable environmental policies, said, “We are aware of our responsibility for a liveable world, and we have neutralized corporate carbon emissions with the efforts we initiated in this direction.”

Beşiktaş Municipality is The First and Only District Municipality in Istanbul That Neutralized Its Corporate Carbon Footprint!

While the effects of global climate change are being felt more each passing day, Turkey has chosen to reduce and reset carbon footprints according to the Kyoto Protocol, which came into force in 1997, although Turkey is a voluntary carbon marketplace. In this context, about climate change, Beşiktaş Municipality started to work to reset its corporate carbon footprint by accepting all its responsibilities voluntarily. Beşiktaş Municipality calculated the carbon emission of the institution and had these calculations approved by one of the authorized institutions in the field, BSİ.  In line with this process, by applying to İSTAÇ and resetting 4.164 tons of carbon credit issued by the institution in 2019, Beşiktaş Municipality has been awarded the ISO 14064-1 certificate for 2019 within ISO standard.

Speaking of the need to raise social awareness about environmental awareness, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat said, “Before we took office, we shared our Carbon Footprint Reduction project with our citizens and promised to realize it quickly. In a year, while many of our vehicles in our municipality, including the vehicle I use, have been turned into Hybrid and more environmentally friendly vehicles, we also took steps to reduce the individual carbon footprint with electric scooters as it is in the most important cities of the world.'' Stating the increasing importance of resetting the corporate carbon footprint in our country, Mayor Rıza Akpolat underlined the responsibilities of local governments at this point. Speaking of the works held by municipality about the transition to hybrid vehicles and green buildings are continuing to reduce the carbon footprint, Akpolat said that these studies will continue to create social awareness and leave a more liveable world for the future generations.
