It is the second year of the FotoIstanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival …

BEŞİKTAŞ EMBRACES THE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY!

THE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY EMBRACES BEŞİKTAŞ!

The Fotoİstanbul Continues Despite All The Obstacles!

The FotoIstanbul Beşiktaş International Photography Festival which is the most comprehensive photograph event ever held in Istanbul so far is going to start for the second time on the 9th of October 2015.

The photograph lovers can visit the FotoIstanbul, through which we have gathered almost 60 artists from the USA, Asia, Europe and Turkey, by until November 8, 2015. The festival, held at the Ortaköy Orphanage as well as the Beşiktaş Barbaros Square, Beşiktaş Demokrasi Park and Ortaköy Art Center, is going to gather millions of people around the art of photography once more.

FotoIstanbul 2nd Beşiktaş International Photography Festival aims to bring the art of photography together with the whole Beşiktaş and all the residents of Istanbul through 47 exhibitions, 15 panels and roundtable discussions, 80 photography performances, over 100 portfolio evaluations, book autograph sessions and talks with masters.

The theme of FotoIstanbul this year is ”Lives of Others”.

The festival team describes the content of the theme in this way: “We are interested in who we aren’t. That is to say, our interest is our ‘other’s… We wish to understand and get to know our others not with a hope that they change but by embracing them only as they are. Our desire is to manage to look at the life from the others’ viewpoint instead of only from our own point of view, and even watch ourselves from other perspectives.

The FotoIstanbul is hosting about 20 artists in Istanbul, including Josef Koudelka mainly, who is one of the most important photography artists alive, and also worldwide known artists such as Anders Petersen, Atta Kim and Stanley Green. The Festival features 20 photography artists from Turkey, among which are Sıtkı Kösemen, Haluk Çobanoğlu, Laleper Aytek, Kürşat Bayhan, Meltem Işık and Cemre Yeşil.

This year, we spare a special part for Ara Güler within the scope of the FotoIstanbul ‘Respect for the Masters’ event. In this respect, besides a comprehensive exhibition, which includes the never-before-seen photographs of the Master, we are also holding a panel discussion on the photography of Ara Güler.

Likewise, in the special part of the FotoIstanbul, the visitors are also going to be able to view an important exhibition on the life and works of Robert Frank, an American photography artist who has changed the course of the history of photography.

Besides, this year, we have added a photography contest performed on the Instagram into the FotoIstanbul festival events. After the final selection of the photographs sent by thousands of contestants from all over the world, those who achieve to advance to the final will be rewarded with various gifts. Throughout the Festival, the photograph lovers will get the chance to see the works of the photographers who rank among the top hundred at this contest.

In the second year of the FotoIstanbul, the art director of the festival is Atilla Durak, while Rıza Erdeğirmenci is serving as the Festival Director, Hüseyin Yılmaz ve Jason Eskenazi as the curators and Coşar Kulaksız as the consultant.
