Beşiktaş Municipality Participates at EUROCITIES 2017 Ljubljana!

The conference that EUROCITIES – the network of major European cities – holds every year with the participation of the member cities was held in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana this year on November 16-18. The theme of this year’s conference was “Circular Economy and Circular Cities”.

The Beşiktaş Municipality also participated at the EUROCITIES 2017 conference with a delegation. The delegation represented our Municipality both as a participant and as a speaker at the speed networking sessions. Attending the event, our delegation had the opportunity to share Beşiktaş Municipality’s international and social projects with the other participating cities at several occasions. One of the initiatives shared was the ‘Mayor Exchange Program’ that was devised and developed by our Municipality aimed at establishing empathy between nations, cultures and residents of various cities. The ‘Mayor Exchange Program’ attracted great attention and admiration from many European cities attending the event.

Our delegation closely followed up all the speeches and presentations performed by the other member cities on the main topics of circular economy. Taking notes on the feasibility of the projects in our country, our delegation also had the chance to make on-site observations of the best practices about the model implementations that started to be used in Ljubljana.
 

What is Eurocities?

Founded in 1986, Eurocities is a network of local governments, which is composed of the capital cities and metropolitan cities in Europe, and aims to strengthen the cultural, economic and social cooperation of the member cities.

Having its headquarters in Brussels, Eurocities acts as a platform which enables its member European cities to exchange their knowledge and experiences regarding cultural, economic, social-political, environmental affairs and so on, to analyze their common problems and develop innovative solutions in cooperation. It also aims to encourage the member cities to conduct joint projects and practices by holding meetings where it collects proper suggestions on various affairs enabling a broad participation environment. The Beşiktaş Municipality has been a member of Eurocities since October 2014.
