BAHÇEŞEHİR UNIVERSITY:

Bahçeşehir University is a private educational institution located at the European side, on the edge of the Bosporus in Besiktas. . From the United States to China, from France to South Korea from a wide geographical area extending over a thousand foreign students are studying at BAU. The University consists of 9 Faculties and 1 Vocational School 3 Institutes provides post graduate education. 14.304 registered student study at the university. The number of undergraduate students is 8.900. The number of graduate students is 4213. The number of associate degree students is 1191. 920 academic lectures. 454 administrative personnel work at the University There are 2 campuses in Istanbul. Bahçeşehir University Library, which is established on 1.400 meter square field renders service with 242.088 publications, 117.988 books and 124.100 electronic books. 5 different café and restaurant renders service in campus. 1633 activities were held at the University in 2009-2010 academic year. The total audience capacity of the conference halls is 1000. Bahçeşehir University was given the “Superbrands of Turkey” award in 2007. Bahçeşehir Uğur Educational Institutions owns 36 kindergarten, 20 elementary and 11 high schools, and 180 private educational centers in Turkey. The current rector is Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın.

BOĞAZİÇİ UNIVERSITY:

Boğaziçi University (Turkish: Boğaziçi Üniversitesi) is a public university located on the European side of the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey. It has four faculties and two schools offering undergraduate degrees, and six institutes offering graduate degrees. Founded in 1863, it is the first American higher education institution founded outside the United States, having strong ties to the American educational system through Robert College. Boğaziçi University consistently ranks highest in Turkey, having the most number of applicants via the YGS-LYS Turkish university entrance examinations. This allows Boğaziçi University to attract many of the highest scoring students;[4] as well as having the most preferred applied science, education, engineering, and social science programs in Turkey. The language of instruction is English. Boğaziçi University is the only Turkish university among first 200 universities worldwide according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2013-2014.

GALATASARAY UNIVERSITY:

Galatasaray University, was first established in 1481 by Sultan Beyazit II as an “Enderun School” (Imperial School) and was called the “Galata Sarayı” (‘Galata Palace’). The institution started in the same premises of the present Galatasaray High School with the mission of training civil servants for various ranks in the state administration.

Galatasaray is the only educational institution in Turkey maintaining its reputation, traditional structure and mission to this day.In 1868, the school was opened under the name of “Galatasaray Mektebi Sultanisi” (Galatasaray High School), the third version of present-day Galatasaray, by order of Sultan Abdulaziz, the first Ottoman emperor who visited Europe and was highly influenced by the educational institutions in France, in particular. In order to realize the “idea of establishing a university” on which many Galatasaray High School graduates set their hearts, a commission was founded by the alumni and concrete steps were taken in line with this objective.

The University Charter was signed by Turkish and French committees on 6th December, 1991. ınstitution was established under the name of Galatasaray Education and Training Institution in accordance with the institutional status published in the Official Gazette, dated May 22nd, 1992 issue no.21235. The Galatasaray Education and Training Institution consists of the primary school, high school and different departments of higher education and continues to function within the framework of the decisions taken in accordance with the international agreement of 1992, its institutional status, and the co-representation committee including Chairman Prof. Dr. Yıldızhan Yayla, The Turkish Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Barlas Tolan, The French Vice Chairman Annie Petit, The Director of The Engineering and Technology School Prof. Dr. Ethem Tolga, The Headmaster of Galatasaray High School Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Teziç, and Associate General Secretary Prof. Dr. Yalçın Çakalır. The Galatasaray Education and Training Institution was transformed into a university with the Formation and Cadre Act No 3993 published in the Official Gazette (issue no.21952) on June 6th, 1994, and received the name of “Galatasaray University” as a state university in accordance with its legal status.

ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY :

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) was established in 1773, during the time of the Ottoman Sultan Mustafa III. under its original name “Muhendishane-i Bahr-i Humayun”. Since then ITU continued and developed its higher education in various forms.

In 1946, ITU became an autonomous university, including the Faculties of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. ITU is a state university which defines and continues to update methods of engineering and architecture in Turkey. It provides its students with innovative educational facilities while retaining traditional values, as well as using its strong international contacts to mould young, talented individuals who can compete not only within their country borders but also in the global arena.

KADİR HAS UNIVERSITY:

Kadir Has University (KHU) was founded in 1997, in Istanbul. The university, with its five faculties of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Communication, Law and Fine Arts, as well as its several vocational schools, is dedicated to becoming a leader in educational and cultural fields in Turkey, as well as establishing itself as an international center for research and scientific development.. Prof. Mustafa Aydın is the rector of the university.The university was founded by the Kadir Has Charity Foundation, established by the late industrialist and philanthropist Kadir Has.

The university's central campus is located at Cibali Istanbul, on the Golden Horn. The building was actually a tobacco factory, erected in 1884 and used for nearly seventy years by TEKEL the state tobacco producers. It then fell in disrepair due to the lack of maintenance and eventually was abandoned. It wasn't until the late 90's when the Kadir Has Foundation came up with the idea to turn this desolated factory building into a university, taking a twenty-nine year lease from Tekel in 1997. After four years of restoration, the university was officially opened in 30 December 2002. The building has over 35.000m2 of indoor space plus grounds.

MIMAR SINAN FINE ARTS UNIVERSITY :

Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University is a Turkish state university dedicated to the higher education of fine arts. It is located in the Fındıklı neighborhood of İstanbul, Turkey. The institution was founded on January 1, 1882 as the "School of Fine Arts" ("Sanayi-i Nefise Mekteb-i Âlisi, formally Mekteb-i Sanayi-i Nefise-i Şâhâne or simply "Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi") by the renowned Turkish painter Osman Hamdi Bey, who was also an art historian, archeologist and museum curator. Being the first of its kind in Turkey, education in fine arts and architecture began on March 2, 1883 with 8 instructors and 20 students.

In 1914, the school became co-educational. The school was converted in 1928 to an academy, the first academy in Turkey, and its name was changed to "State Academy of Fine Arts" (Devlet Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi). In 1969, this was renamed to "Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts" (İstanbul Devlet Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi). On July 20, 1982, its status was changed, and the academy became "Mimar Sinan University" (Mimar Sinan Üniversitesi) after the great Ottoman-Armenian architect Mimar Sinan. Finally, in December 2003, the administration of the university changed its name to "Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University".

Yildiz Technical University is one of the seven public universities situated in İstanbul besides being the 3rd oldest university of Turkey with its history dating back to 1911. It is regarded as one of the best universities in the country, as well.
