We Are In Mourning!

We Are In Mourning!

Beşiktaş is of one heart and soul against terrorism...

As the Beşiktaş Municipality, we strongly condemn the treacherous twin bombing terrorist attacks perpetrated in our district on Saturday, December 10th outside the Vodafone Arena Stadium and at the Maçka Park. May God rest the souls of our citizens who were martyred. We wish our injured citizens a quick recovery.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Beşiktaş Municipality held a commemoration ceremony at the Municipal Hall in Levent on Monday morning, December 12th, for our citizens who lost their lives at the treacherous terrorist attacks. Mayor Mr. Atty. Murat Hazinedar addressed to his colleagues at the ceremony and said, “We are never going to be afraid of terrorism but we will be united against it. We are going to give moral support to the people on the street, in the downtown, in any store and elsewhere. That is how we are going to stand against terrorism”. After the ceremony, the Beşiktaş Municipal Council held an extraordinary city council meeting at 10.00 a.m. on Monday, December 12th 2016 and aligned against terrorism. At the meeting, the Council changed the name of the location where one of the terrorist attacks was carried out, which is known as ‘Beleş Tepe’ as ‘Şehitler Tepesi’ (translating as ‘the Hill of Martyrs’) after those we lost at the attacks. In addition to that, soon a monument will be erected on the location of the attack outside the stadium in memory of our martyrs.

And after the Municipal Council meeting, another commemoration ceremony was held in front of the Dolmabahçe Clock Tower at 11.30 a.m. which was attended by Mayor Hazinedar, by consul generals, consuls and foreign mission representatives of many countries, as well as the leaders of 3 Abrahamic religions. The crowd marched to the site of attack outside the stadium, shoulder to shoulder against terrorism and left wreaths and carnations on the commemoration corner arranged by the Beşiktaş Municipality.

After the march, Mayor Hazinedar answered the questions from the press and said “Actually, the plotters of this attack targeted not only those tens of police officers and young people who had to stand between us and terrorism; but also the whole humanity as they attacked on the occasion of 10th of December World Human Rights Day. There is no doubt that we are going to respond to these terrorist attacks which targeted our country and citizens. While doing this, we are not going to make no concessions of our political tone of love and active respect. Because it is our main principles they primarily aim to harm. I would like to invite everybody, the whole Istanbul and the whole Turkey, to condemn these treacherous attacks perpetrated in Beşiktaş and to visit the site we will from now on call The Hill of Martyrs" in memory of those we lost.
