THE TURKISH REPUBLIC IS 95 YEARS OLD!

The Beşiktaş Municipality celebrated the 95th anniversary of the October 29 Turkish Republic Day organizing the traditional torchlight procession and a concert on Monday in Beşiktaş.

The traditional Republic Day events of our Municipality once more took place in Beşiktaş with great joy and with the participation of thousands of Beşiktaş and Istanbul residents.  As every year, the celebrations started with the torchlight procession. Thousands of citizens marched from Balmumcu to Barbaros Boulevard carrying Turkish flags and torchlights and also singing anthems.

The event was attended by a huge enthusiastic crowd and all the streets, windows and balconies were decorated with Turkish flags and posters of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

After the marching, the Beşiktaş Acting Mayor Mr. Tahir Doğaç greeted the citizens together with her wife Ms. Günay Doğaç and gave a speech. “Esteemed citizens of Beşiktaş, republic enthusiasts, the brave hearts of Mustafa Kemal; welcome to our event to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the Turkish Republic! As you all know, Atatürk lived in Beşiktaş for many years. This is a great honor to us as the citizens of Beşiktaş. I feel great joy for celebrating the anniversary of our Republic here in Beşiktaş on this beautiful night. Happy Republic Day! Long live the Republic!” said Doğaç.

Mr. Doğaç’s speech was followed by a music concert. Firstly, Leman Sam and then Ege took to the stage in Barbaros Square. The celebrations also featured folk dance shows and modern dance shows.
