The Azerbaijan Friendship Park, located in Beşiktaş, was renovated and re-opened on May 30, 2018 by the Beşiktaş Municipality on account of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan. Messages of peace and friendship were given through the opening ceremony, which was attended by the consul generals of the Turkic Republics, various non-governmental organizations, and press members. This meaningful event was also attended by the Beşiktaş Acting Mayor Mr. Tahir Doğaç, Azerbaijani Cultural Consul Ms. Esmira Huseynova, the Consul General of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Istanbul Mr. Fahri Yönlüer, the Consul General of the Kyrgyz Republic in İstanbul Mr. Erkin Sopokov, the Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Istanbul Mr. Shukhrat Aminov, the Consul General of the Republic of Tunisia in İstanbul Mr. Hedi Malek, the Acting Consul General of India Mr. Shri Purnojyoti Mukherjee, the President of the Istanbul-Turkey Azerbaijan Solidarity and Culture Association Mr. Sefer Karakoyunlu, representatives from the Azerbaijan Cultural House and many citizens.
The Azerbaijani Folk Dance Team gave a marvelous performance as part of the event. After the speeches, one tree for each consulate participating the event was planted on different spots within the park. The Beşiktaş Acting Mayor Mr. Doğaç and the Consul Generals planted and watered the trees together.
The Azerbaijani Cultural Consul Ms. Esmira Huseynova gave a speech and said “Several events have been organized on various locations throughout Turkey in honor of the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of Azerbaijan. And the Beşiktaş Municipality have performed the renovation of the Azerbaijan Friendship Park. In this respect, we would like to thank them for their valuable support and for this beautiful event”.
The Beşiktaş Acting Mayor Mr. Tahir Doğaç also gave a speech and said “I would like to greet with respect all the Azerbaijani People. As Ms. Huseynova said, we have gathered here today as ‘2 states but 1 nation’. Let us accept this park, where we wholeheartedly have gathered, not just as a green space but also as a single heart which is the continuation of the fire that was burnt in our shared history. I would like to extend my thanks to everybody who put their efforts in the renovation of this park and the organization of this lovely event”.
