Beşiktaş Mayor Atty. Murat Hazinedar attended the activities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on the 41st anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.
Beşiktaş Mayor Hazinedar was in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) for the July 20 Peace and Freedom Day celebrations. After attending the formal parade held on the 41st anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation; Mr. Mayor, in company with Murat Karayalçın, who is the Istanbul Provincial Head of the CHP (Republican People’s Party), attended the Peace and Freedom Day reception organized by the Presidency of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the evening. The reception was also attended by the Turkish Starts and the Solo Turkish Team.
Mayor Hazinedar also visited Mustafa Akıncı, who is the President of the TRNC.
Stating that Beşiktaş is the zenith of Istanbul as the phrase is, Mr. Mayor invited Mr. Akıncı, the President of the TRNC, to visit Beşiktaş. And expressing his appreciation for the visit of Mr. Hazinedar, Mr. Akıncı said that he will visit Beşiktaş at the earliest, as a former Mayor himself and a fan of Istanbul.
Remarking that being a mayor is a totally different matter as mayors usually assume a lot of tasks at once; Mr. Akıncı said that he feels extra sympathy for mayors, as a former mayor himself. Mr. Akıncı wished Mr. Hazinedar luck in his office.
Also visiting Ömer Kalyoncu, who is the Prime Minister of the TRNC, Mr. Mayor said that he had previously visited the TRNC in 1983 together with a group of students from Turkey during the foundation of the TRNC, and has taken a keen interest in the TRNC ever since.
During his official visits in the TRNC, Atty. Murat Hazinedar also gathered with Mr. Mehmet Harmancı, who is the Mayor of the Turkish Nicosia, and Mr. Nidai Güngördü, who is the Mayor of Kyrenia.
