On the occasion of the Pride Week of June 22-28, a reception was hosted by the Beşiktaş Municipality. As the Beşiktaş Municipality, we are performing our share to build a country in which nobody is exposed to discrimination due to their religion, language, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity.
The event was a first in Turkey, as a public institution held a reception on the occasion of the LGBTI Pride Week for the first time in Turkey.
The Mayor of the Beşiktaş Municipality Atty. Murat Hazinedar, consuls general of various countries, EU Parliamentarians and Representatives, and the prominent names of the LGBTI movement attended the reception organized by the Beşiktaş Municipality on the occasion of the Pride Week. The Mayor Hazinedar said “We held our LGBTI Pride Week Reception with the attendance of our precious guests and LGBTI friends. This reception points out how much importance the Beşiktaş Municipality attaches to the LGBTI policies.”
The Mayor continued his speech as “We will abide by the LGBTI-Friendly Municipality Protocol signed by our municipality before the local elections and keep on our works promoting the LGBTI policies in the local governments in cooperation with the LGBTI associations. We hope that these leading steps taken by the Beşiktaş Municipality regarding the LGBTI rights will also influence the general policies in Turkey in the forthcoming years.”
In Turkey, the Pride Week has been organized since 2003. Throughout the week, various panels, workshops and events are conducted, and on the last day of the Pride Week, LGBTI Pride Parade is held in the İstiklal Street. And this year, the Parade, held on Sunday, June 28 was also attended by the personnel, the municipal council members, and the Mayor of the Beşiktaş Municipality Atty. Murat Hazinedar.
