The Beşiktaş Municipality organized a meaningful event in cooperation with the Yanındayız Association, which made a call for going on public duty on November 25 as part of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
The event, which was carried out on Sunday, November 25 in Beşiktaş Square was attended by the Beşiktaş Acting Mayor Mr. Tahir Doğaç, Beşiktaş Vice Mayor Ms. Leyla Ünver, the President of the Yanındayız Association Nur Ger, Murat Yetkin who is the Vice President of the Yanındayız Association and also a journalist, as well as the directors of the Association and a lot of Beşiktaş citizens. Beşiktaş was on duty with the purpose of commemorating the women who lost their lives for being subjected to violence from men and also of raising awareness about violence against women upon the initiative of the Yanındayız Association, which is aimed at achieving social gender equality in Turkey within the framework of the universal human rights notion.
During the event, the names of each woman who were murdered in 2018 by being subjected to violence from men were announced and commemorated. The people attending the event shared the message #weareonduty until murders of women come to an end.
The Beşiktaş Acting Mayor Mr. Tahir Doğaç gave a short speech and said, “As the Beşiktaş Municipality, we stand with women. We will be on duty until murders of women come to an end”.
