The Council of Europe Awards the “Honour Flag” to Beşiktaş Municipality

The Council of Europe Awards the “Honour Flag” to Beşiktaş Municipality

Receiving many awards in various fields thanks to the successful implementations put into practice in Beşiktaş, our municipality is now one step closer to getting the Europe Prize. Beşiktaş Municipality was found qualified to get the “Flag of Honour,” the second stage of the Europe Prize, by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

After winning the “Partner of the ELDW” title as part of the 2022 European Local Democracy Week (ELDW) in the March of this year, Beşiktaş Municipality was deemed worthy to get the “Flag of Honour” award for its meticulous and successful implementation of sister city relationships, European events, and European and international solidarity activities.

Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat made the following statement regarding the award: “As we maintain our partnerships with sister cities and organizations of which we are a member, we will support our youth’s involvement in volunteering activities through EU Erasmus+ projects.”

The Europe Prize is granted by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, and consists of four stages respectively: the European Diploma, the Flag of Honour and the Plaque of Honour. The fourth and the ultimate stage, the Europe Prize, is awarded after successfully completing all previous stages.
