Beşiktaş Municipality Achieves EFQM’s “Recognized for Excellence 5 Star” Award!
Having fulfilled all the required criteria and achieved the external assessments, the hard work of the Beşiktaş Municipality in terms of total quality has been crowned with the ‘Recognized for Excellence 5 Star’ award granted by the KalDer (Turkish Quality Association), which is the national cooperation partner of the EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management).
The Only Municipality in Turkey to Achieve 5 Star in 2017
The award ceremony for the Turkey Excellence Awards 2017 event, organized in cooperation between the KalDer and TÜSİAD (Turkish Industry and Business Association) was held at the Zorlu Performans Sanatları Merkezi on November 22, 2017. The Beşiktaş Municipality attended the event with a large delegation including the Mayor Atty. Murat Hazinedar, vice mayors, city councilors, directors, municipal staff. The ceremony was also attended by many other municipalities and corporate companies from all over Turkey. The Beşiktaş Municipality became the only municipality in Istanbul and also throughout Turkey to achieve the ‘Recognized for Excellence 5 Star’ award in 2017.
Previously, our Municipality had achieved the ‘Recognized for Excellence 3 Star’ in 2015 and the ‘Recognized for Excellence 4 Star’ in 2016. Being dedicated to success and committed to excellence, the Beşiktaş Municipality has now achieved the ‘Recognized for Excellence 5 Star’ award, once more proving to be the pioneer municipality with regards to corporate quality.
The Next Goal is Turkey Excellence Award!
Giving a speech at the ceremony, Mayor Hazinedar said, “The excellence of our service quality has been officially registered now. We have achieved this meaningful 5 Star award. We feel proud to be providing an excellent understanding of service to the esteemed residents of Beşiktaş. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my dear colleagues who made this award possible for all their efforts that ended up in being the only municipality in Turkey to achieve the 5 Star in 2017. But as you also know, there is no limit to excellence. We will continue our hard work with the purpose of perpetuating our success and retaining the excellence of our service quality. This journey has been a very important one that required sustainability and the ability to understand the dynamics, expectations and sensitivity of the society. The private sector already has a competitive nature. And we are trying to transfer and reflect this understanding, which cares about quality, to the public sector. In this respect, the 5 Star Certificate of the Turkish Quality Association is a very strong indicator for us. Our journey towards excellence has reached a crucial point. Winning the 3 Star award did not quench our thirst for success. Neither did the 4 Star award. Now we possess the ‘Recognized for Excellence 5 Star’ award this year. We have accomplished a 3-year period successfully. Now our new goal for the new year is Turkey Excellence Award”.

The European Foundation for Quality Management, EFQM, was founded in October 1989 when the CEOs/Presidents of 67 European companies subscribed to the Policy Document and declared their commitment to achieving EFQM mission and vision.
The Foundation set up a team of experts, from industry and academia, to develop the EFQM Excellence Model, a holistic framework than can be applied to any organization, regardless of size or sector. This was first used to support the assessment of organizations in the European Quality Award in 1992. And the KalDer became the national business partner of the EFQM in 1992 and announced the introduction of the National Quality Award (today it is called Turkey Excellence Award) in the same year. Now every year establishments from Turkey also apply for and be rewarded by the European Excellence Award granted by the EFQM with a view to support the competitiveness among European establishments since 1992.
