The 96th anniversary of the August 30 Turkish Victory Day was celebrated in Beşiktaş by the Beşiktaş Municipality through a joyous program including several events.
The celebrations on the 96th anniversary of the great victory featured the traditional torchlight procession and a concert comprising the favorite songs of our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The program started with placing a wreath on the statue of Atatürk at the Demokrasi Square in Beşiktaş. The music band of the folk dance group of the Beşiktaş Municipality gave a performance here. And the celebrations continued with the traditional torchlight procession. The citizens taking part in the event marched to the Dünya Barış Park holding torches and Turkish flags. The event was also attended by the Beşiktaş Acting Mayor Mr. Tahir Doğaç. Giving a short speech here, Mr. Doğaç said; “When I look at you all, I feel the heart of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who led us to our victory 96 years ago today. You are the children of a historic district. As you all know, Beşiktaş is where the first step was taken towards our War of Independence when imperialist powers invaded and divided the Ottoman Empire. Those very steps Atatürk took from Beşiktaş on May 16 leaded to the birth of our Republic at the end of this great victory. As the libertarian citizens of Beşiktaş, we will always remember this day and keep the values and principles of our Republic alive."
Later Mr. Doğaç planted a bay tree, which is the symbol of this victory, in the Dünya Barış Park. The second part of the event continued in the Etiler Sanatçılar Park, where the favorite songs of Atatürk were performed by the singer Linda Çandır. The concert was largely attended by the residents of Beşiktaş and Istanbul.
