Murat Hazinedar was born in 1971 in Istanbul. He attended primary school in Fatsa and secondary school at Yükseliş Koleji in Ankara. After he completed his high school education in Bolaman, Fatsa and Kabataş Boys’ High School, he graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University. He performed his profession as a successful attorney founding his own “Hazinedar Law Office” and was the Head Attorney of the Company from 1997 to April 2014. 

Prior to being elected as the Mayor, he was quite a businessman and an entrepreneur and worked for several textile and import companies. He was one of the co-founders of the Or-gi Taşıt Muayene İstasyonları A.Ş. and he was a board member of the Avrasya Terminal İşletmeleri A.Ş.

His passion to serve the community and also uplifting the youth attracted him a lot and led his carrier path to politics. After he started his political career on youth branch, he became a delegate of the General Assembly of Republican People’s Party (CHP) in 2000. Staying in the political arena with the “Turkey Change Movement (TDH) as of 2009, he ran for the parliamentary elections in 2011 as an independent candidate from Ordu. He then returned to his home party CHP together with Mustafa Sarıgül who was the leader of TDH in 2013.

On February 10th, 2014, he was nominated for the Mayorship of Beşiktaş Municipality by the CHP and on March 30th, 2014 he was elected as the Mayor by obtaining 77 percent of the total votes.

Besides supporting several non-governmental organizations and social and cultural associations as founding president, honorary council and board member; he was also one of the co-founders of “The Association of Carbon Emission Reduction and Control” with the purpose of supporting, developing and raising awareness about the “Clear Air and Clear Water Project”. He is still the Vice President of this association.

People know him not only as an animal lover but also as a lover of sports and technology. He speaks English quite well as a foreign language. Mayor Hazinedar is married to Özlem Hazinedar and father of Yaşatan Hazinedar.
